What are my options?
Now that it’s been confirmed you are definitely pregnant you may feel a range of different emotions or you may even feel totally numb.
Whatever you’re feeling, you now need to think about what to do. This is an important decision and whatever your choice it needs to be right for you. Don’t be pressured into doing something you don’t want to do. It’s important not to delay making your decision because if you are continuing with the pregnancy you will need to see a GP to make sure you and the baby stay healthy. Where as if you decide not to continue with the pregnancy the earlier the abortion is done the safer and easier the procedure is.
You have three choices, they are:
- To continue with the pregnancy and keep the baby
- To request an abortion/termination to end the pregnancy
- To continue with the pregnancy and have the baby adopted
What about the man’s rights?
This may be a difficult time for men too. Some will want to be involved in the decision making whilst others won’t want to be involved at all. Many will support their partner’s decision, even if they don’t necessarily agree. The relationship may be over but the man might still feel he has a right to be informed. However it is up to the woman to decide whether or not to involve the man in her choice. He does not have any legal rights to make a decision about whether or not the pregnancy continues.
