Male condoms

Male condoms can prevent pregnancy and protect you against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). They work by catching sperm when a man cums to stop it from entering the vagina.

They can be up to 98% effective at preventing pregnancy and offer the best protection against STIs – but only if they're used properly.

Every condom packet has an instruction leaflet inside – take the time to read it, especially if you start using a different type. You also read our condom class page for more information.

If you are allergic to natural rubber (latex) you can get hypoallergenic vinyl versions.

Where to get condoms

If you are under 25 you can get free condoms through our C-Card scheme.

If you are over 25 condoms are available from Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) or Genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinics. You can also get condoms from your GP, chemists and other shops such as petrol stations, from vending machines in pubs and clubs and from online stores. Make sure condoms have the BSI kite mark or European CE quality mark  to assure you it is safe.
