Contraceptive patches
The contraceptive patch is a small beige patch that you stick on a part of your body like a sticky plaster and you change it for a new one each week. You can wear the patch swimming, in the bath and while you’re exercising. It’s very reliable and easy to use.
It works by changing the flow of hormones in a woman’s body that control her periods. Used properly it’s 99% effective at preventing pregnancy but it does NOT protect you against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Where to get contraceptive patches
You will need to see a doctor or nurse to find out if the patch is suitable for you to use. You can do this by visiting your GP or Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) clinic.
