The Josephine Butler clinic at Clayton Hospital in Wakefield is a specialist Genito-urinary medicine (GUM) clinic where you can get tests and treatment for all Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). There’s also a GUM clinic at Pontefract Hospital. Doctors, nurses and health advisors at both clinics offer free, confidential advice about contraception. You can get tests, treatment, advice and counselling for HIV as well as free condoms. Also if you suffer with any of the following conditions, staff at the clinics can help to manage these:
- frequent bouts of Bacterial Vaginosis or BV (an imbalance of the usual bacteria found in a woman’s vagina causing an abnormal vaginal discharge which can smell fishy and unpleasant);
- Thrush or Candida (a fungal infection that causes irritation and swelling of the vagina and vulva); or
- Vulval or penile dermatology (treatment of common skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis affecting the genital area.)
