Confidentiality
Throughout this website you will read that the services we provide are totally confidential. You might be asking what does that mean and what if I’m under 16 – can they tell my parents?
There are very strict rules of confidentially which doctors, nurses and health professionals must work to. The law says that they must keep all patients records and information private. Only in exceptional circumstances will a doctor or nurse pass this information on and then they must talk to you first before they tell anyone else. What makes an exceptional circumstance is when the health professional thinks you or someone else might be in serious danger.
If you are under 13 and having sex the doctor or nurse is more likely to be worried about your safety, as there’s Government guidance that they must follow. And they may feel that it’s in your best interest to get some extra help from a social worker.
If you are ever worried or concerned about confidentiality before you go to visit any of the services listed on this website give them a call. You don’t have to give your name and you can ask if they’d ever tell anyone about your visit or share any information about you with anyone else.
