At different times in your life and for lots of different reasons, you might need the help, advice and support of different services. There are lots of local support services out there so we’ve put together some information about each one to help you choose the service that meets your needs.

Youth workers offer drop-in sessions for young people aged 13 – 19. You can get information and support on any issue. You can also get free condoms as part of the C-Card scheme, Chlamydia screening and pregnancy tests.

WISMS (Wakefield Integrated Substance Misuse Service)

Well Women Centre
The Well Women Centre, based in Wakefield is a charity where women over 16 can get free, confidential emotional and practical support. You can get pregnancy testing and counselling to deal with issues such as unplanned pregnancies, they’ll talk through your options. You can get free condoms and Chlamydia testing, as well as information on contraception.

Need2talk-here2listen is a free, local, confidential counselling service for 13 to 19 year olds. You can get support for a whole range of issues such as sexual health, relationships, family issues, drugs, bullying, alcohol and more.
You can ring them yourself to make an appointment. There’s also an online counselling service.

Young Families Project
The Young Families Project is run by Barnados. They have lots of experience helping young families and this project can help you if you are pregnant or a parent aged 19 and under. You can get support with lots of issues including health, housing, parenting and support looking for work or training.

Fruitbowl is a local project run by Yorkshire MESMAC, one of the oldest and largest sexual health organisations in the country. If you’re under 25 and gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or maybe not sure Fruitbowl is a place to meet like-minded people, new friends and get advice. It’s a completely confidential service and the group get together once a week.

Back to the topSTAR (Surviving Trauma After Rape)
STAR offers free, confidential, emotional and practical support for anyone aged 14+ who has been raped or sexually assaulted. You don’t have to have reported the offence to the police to be able to use the service.
There’s now also a STAR Crisis Worker Service available. So if you are 14 or over and have been raped or sexually assaulted within the past 7 days you can self refer. The crisis worker will discuss your options with you and, if you wish, can arrange for you to have a forensic medical examination. Evidence gained from an examination will be stored by STAR. If, in future, you do decide to report the incident to the police, they can help you with this process.
